Tapalpa Temples
Address: Centro, Tapalpa, Jalisco, Mexico .The center of Tapalpa also houses two temples under its walls. The oldest temple dates from the 26th century, so it is more than 350 years old. It is called "Templo de San Antonio" in honor of this saint. According to history, San Antonio defended the town of Tapalpa on several occasions from bandits who wanted to loot the town. Nowadays it is also known as "Templo Viejo" (Old Temple), it serves as a museum of sacred art, and in it different works and articles of the Cristero battle are exhibited.
The Temple of Our Lady of Guadalupe was finished in 1970 and is distinguished by its brick construction, without beams or tiling.
It was created after the Templo de San Antonio was damaged. It took 27 years to be built.
The first stone was laid in 1950 and thanks to donations from the entire town, it was finished.
